Biography
"I don't have to have faith, I have had experience"
Joseph Cambell
Prudent Juris is the brainchild of Carolyn Deigan BA LLB who was first admitted as a solicitor of the Supreme Court of New South Wales in 1977. Throughout her career she has specialised in property law and litigation associated with property and company matters.
Carolyn operated a successful legal practice in Sydney for many years for a select group of Australia’s highest profile property developers and the general public. She operated her practice on the basis of creative and sensible solutions to any property transaction. Carolyn states: “There is nothing that can happen in property that hasn’t happened to one of my clients.”In the early nineties Carolyn moved with her family to Malaysia, where she undertook work on behalf of Australian and International corporations in Malaysia, Singapore, Hong Kong and the US. She was engaged to interpret the law in those jurisdictions, strategising and instructing local firms. She also edited and published a successful magazine for expatriate Australians and New Zealanders living in Kuala Lumpur.
Mrs Deigan returned to property law in Australia rebuilding her practice and clientele. In 1997 Carolyn gained her accreditation as a property law specialist. However, she found the changed business environment required her to also expand her commercial litigation skills. She became concerned with the increasing difficulty to settle disputes and general growth of litigiousness. As a lawyer, who has always been focused on results and outcomes, the cost and time wasted in litigation frustrated her. During the early part of this decade, due to her personal involvement with a property group that failed, she experienced the problems of living through litigation first hand.
Over recent years Carolyn has concentrated on finding ways to:
• Establish and operate business to reduce exposure to scams, scamsters, litigation;
• Streamline litigation by adopting the systemised practices of conveyancing;
• Assist people in finding alternatives to litigation;
• Reduce the costs of litigation and other legal services; and
• Deal with the stress associated with legal problems and litigation.
Mrs Deigan holds a current NSW practising certificate as a solicitor. However, she has reduced the amount of legal work she actually undertakes to develop Prudent Juris Pty Limited and to mentor young lawyers.
Carolyn has also continued her education and research in other fields of endeavour to find alternative ways to deal with disputes, legal problems and litigation. She believes that she has a great deal to offer in this regard and that the systems she has developed are applicable to all disputes or legal problems, not only to do in business but even in the highly emotional area of Family Law.
Carolyn is the author of the soon to be released books “How to Avoid Sharks”, “How to Manage Sharks” and a number of e-books.
Prudent Juris also engages the services of a number of consultants each of whom has more than 15 years experience in the area of their specialisation.
